On the famous plateau of Ustyurt, Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, there is one of the most revered Muslim shrines of the country - the underground mosque "Becket-ata". It was founded by the famous theologian and clairvoyant - Becket-ata at the end of the XVIII century.
In the southeast of the Mangistau region, in a very interesting place called “Sands of Tuyesu”, where the dunes reach a height of 10 m, there is the Ustyurt State Nature Reserve. It was created in 1984 on an area of 223 thousand hectares and was intended to protect the flora and fauna of the desert region.
Not far from the Becket-ata mosque, there is another shrine revered by Muslims - the underground mosque - Shakpak-Ata. There is reason to believe that it was carved into the rocks in the 9th-10th centuries according to the plan of Shakpak-ata, the grandson of the great prophet Shopan-ata. The mosque is located near a stone cape on the slope of Mount Ungazy and is a latin-shaped building cut down in a rock.
A natural landmark located 50 km from Aktau in the eastern part of the Mangyshlak plateau. Karakiya is one of the deepest hollow in the world, its depth is 132 m from the level of the oceans. There is an assumption that this hollow is the bottom of the ancient salt lake Batyr, as evidenced by the outcrops of geological formations with numerous bones of fossil fishes.
Only 170 km north of Aktau in a deserted area is the famous mountain - Sherkala, formed by the centuries-old erosive destruction of the local breed. At the base of the mountain, the remains of a fortified settlement of the 12th – 13th centuries have been preserved, and not far away is the mysterious valley, where over a dozen round blocks of stone have been collected on a small area, the origin and purpose of which is still a mystery.
The unique shopping and entertainment center "Aktau" is easy to recognize and remember thanks to its unique style that combines modern high technology, functionality and the atmosphere of the holiday.
If you are in Aktau and have a lot of time, visit the recreation center "Stigl". Its main advantage is the bathhouse on the pier. Having steamed, you can dive into the Caspian Sea. Well, of course, there are restaurants, cafes, billiards, sports and more.
